It makes about 400hp at 8400RPM and then 800 at 9700RPM. Engine is M12, the one posted below.

So this is what you see out of your windshield as you accelerate from 8400 to 9700 RPM?

I imagine it feels a little faster than that!!!

How is it possible for a motor to make peak torque at over 9500 RPM?

I've always wondered what a powerband like that would feel like actually. I've driven an s2000 so I imagine that x3

I had to look up what the engine went on. Disappointed its not the USS Enterprise or something

It is like magic of sorts! I wonder what this thing is like out of turns. Most of the torque comes after 9k!

I think they are counting on it just not slowing down for corners to keep it in the power band.

It would make sense if it's a turbo motor. I've seen turbo Honda motors and turbo sport bike motors that have HP and torque curves like that. If your boost threshold is really high (like 5k rpm) then you won't start to see a lot of torque until after that.

Is it a turbo motor?

Yup, way old F1 turbo car. Some time in the 80s obviously. Turbos have gotten much better now, and we get much nicer power bands.

I think the understanding of turbo systems has gotten better too. I've got about a third of an article written on turbos that I'll post to Oppo next week. Hopefully it gets FP'd because it covers turbocharging from an engineering standpoint.

Ah. F1 car. My first thought was "What the hell are you driving that does 9700RPM? A crotch rocket?".

...I mean, now that I think about it a bit, you said the thing makes 800HP, and I can think of a couple Japanese engines that, with some fresh internals, might be able to make that...

flame-suiting up due to my ignorance.

I mean you aren't to far off. This was a 1.5l turbocharged BMW inline 4. While it made a tame 800 hp. Later down the road it made an enormous 1400hp. Still a 1.5l engine though. So basically it was like 950hp per liter. It did surge a lot though, sometimes up to 75ish psi. In any case. This engine is powerful

Ah yes, I forgot about the turbo.

Better question: do those lines cross at 5252? If not, something's wrong...
